An Evening at Dalt Villa Ibiza
One of the most famous landmarks of Ibiza is Dalt Villa an Acropolis dating back to Phoenician times.
Over the centuries many invaders / settlers have added their own touch and today it is a thriving walled town with bars, restaurants, shops and quirky corners all ready for exploring.
We like to go in the early evening when Dalt Villa starts to come alive.
The entrance is formidable stretching in front of you up a gentle slope with its huge walls towering above you guiding you through an archway where buskers and entertainers fill the air with music and laughter.
You then enter the main square which is full of restaurants and you cannot help but notice the romantic vibe complete with cobbles and narrowing streets beckoning you in to explore upwards.
The route to the top is quite steep, so comfortable cobble-capable shoes and plenty of time should be allowed to enjoy this fully, or even plan a couple of visits to ensure you take it all in.
As you walk through the narrow winding streets take time to notice the mixture of buildings that you walk past. They vary greatly from family residential properties, rental villas through to artist’s studios, galleries and stylish boutiques.
Around every corner you will discover something new, and whilst the tourism office gives you 3 official routes round Dalt Villa it’s great to just explore to see what you can find.
There are beautiful courtyards with gift shops awaiting discovery and don’t be afraid to have a peek through open wooden doors, you never know what art studio or historical display you may find.
When you reach the top battlements, you will discover the most stunning views across the town of Ibiza,, its harbour and beautiful views towards Formentura over the sea and beyond and if you have managed to time it right you can watch the sun setting to the west behind the hills which surround Ibiza town.
From the Battlements at the top, you then descend back down into the narrow cobbled streets will finding more unexpected treasures like these hand prints from famous visitors and celebrities who have taken the time to enjoy Dalt Villa.
Dalt Villa truly has something for everyone – whether it’s the history, culture, art or fashion it has it all.
Just don’t forget your sensible shoes and a camera!
Once you have finished exploring why not make your way to one of the many waterfront bars and grab yourself some well-earned refreshments and enjoy looking out over the luxury yachts and boats which moor up beside the old town.
