Aquarium Cap Blanc San Antonio Ibiza
Located to the north west of San Antonio the Aquarium is a great place to lose an afternoon.
It has a little bar and terrace which is a perfect place to relax and watch the world go by as you enjoy the peace and quiet a away from the hustle and bustle of San Antonio.
The terrace is also where the Ferry arrives/departs to and from San Antonio – ideal if you don’t want to walk across the rocks or via the road, and absolutely perfect if you’ve had one too many of their amazing milkshakes and are just too full to walk back!
For only a few euros (currently for 2019 adults €5 and children 4 – 12 €3) you can descend into a beautiful natural cave which has been used for various purposes over the centuries including acting as a Lobster Farm. But nowadays it is an Aquarium packed full of the fish native to the coastal waters around Ibiza. Occasionally you might spot a few turtles or other exotic species that are in need of some tender loving care.
The underground cave is completely natural and has 5 openings in the rocks allowing sea water to flow in and out which helps keep the water at the perfect temperature for the fish inside.
Uniquely, it also doubles as the Recovery Centre of Marine Species which is funded by the local council and run by the Aquarium. Their sole purpose is to provide recuperation for local protected marine wildlife that may have become injured, before being released back into the wild when they are fully recovered. It is also an ideal opportunity to educate locals and visitors of the problems associated with the sea and its wildlife. We have personally seen turtles recovering at the Aquarium on one of our many visits.
You can also feed the fish in the aquarium with their special pre-prepared fish food and watch the fish race and splash for the titbits you drop it. Our top tip is to buy a bag or two before you go in, it’s extremely cheap and you won’t regret it. All in all the Aquarium is extremely good value for money and is a great place to just relax and let the world carry on around you.
Opening times are June, July, August & September 0930 – 2220 daily, October open daily 9.30 – 18.30, November – April Winter opening – Saturdays only 1000 – 1600
