Plans to pedestrianise San Antonio
The council yesterday met with traders and residents to put forward plans to pedestrianise the Old Town of San Antonio, Ibiza.
The plan is to pedestrianise the streets adjacent to the Plaza de la Iglesia and the West End, as well as to restrict traffic in other arteries of the centre during the summer months.
The closure will also include the Old Town, between Ramón and Cajal streets and Calle del Mar. The idea was trialled last year by the council, when between June and October, the streets of the Old Town surrounding the church, as well as others in the West End, were closed to traffic from 12 noon. This summer will see further protections being put in place for the Posidonia of Ibiza and Formentera, an important endemic species found only in the Mediterranean.
The Posidonia Oceanica to give it its full name or Neptune Grass as it is commonly known is a true treasure of the sea but it suffers irreparable damage each year from recreational boats anchoring on top of it.
Due to its very slow growth and only a limited number of seeds developing each year, it is estimated that the Posidonia is disappearing at a rate of 1 – 2% per year and although it has protected status under both EU and Spanish law there has been very little actual protection for it. Read more

British press reporting of Ibiza
The British press have reached a new low when reporting about Ibiza this weekend. The problem isn’t new and when it suits, the British press love to present the island as a drug, alcohol-fuelled lawless place full of British teenagers running riot.
This has always angered me as it’s simply not true. Yes Ibiza has its social problems for the residents due to the large numbers of multi-national holidaymakers arriving in the summer, but I personally feel that it is no worse than any other town or city across the world.
However this weekend the British press reached a new low in how it reported a genuine story from the island. Read more

Since then odd little teasers and titbits have been flowing through social media finally culminating in the big announcement last night.
Privilege will host Carl Cox in 2017
The teasing has been going on for several weeks but it now seems that Privilege will host Carl Cox in 2017.

Last Sunday a further teasing picture was released on Facebook showing a view taken from the Vista Club windows at Privilege looking towards Ibiza Town with the comment “When nights flow into mornings? #DoYouKnow?” which seems to answer the big question of whice venue. Read more
Ibiza Rocks Hotel is being refurbished
One of the best loved and well known venues Ibiza Rocks Hotel is being refurbished for 2017 and looking at the changes they are bringing it bang up to date for everyone who visits whether you are staying in the hotel or attending one of their events.
The biggest change everyone will notice is that the stage is being repositioned (well actually put back to where it started) by 90 degrees so it is now directly opposite the VIP area.
This also provides more rooms with balconies with direct stage views and we think, will help to make more intimate shows with the performers. Ultimately making what is already an amazing atmosphere even better. Read more
