No more roaming charges
It has taken several years to come to fruition but finally the members of the European Parliament have agreed to scrap data roaming charges across the European Union.
The ultimate result will be that as from June 2017 it will cost you the same to call, text and use the internet across Europe as it does when you are in your home country.
Additionally from the 30th April 2016 there will be a limit placed on extra charges your network can add while you are in Europe:
Calls Per minute 3.5p extra
Per text 1.2p extra
Per MB of data 3.5p extra
The only downside we can see, as details from the mobile operators at this stage is limited, is whether they will add a fair usage policy or similar within their contracts meaning a limit on the time or data transfer allowed.
Our advice is as it was which is that UK operator Three is well worth checking out as they already do a product called “Feel at Home” which covers 18 worldwide destinations including Spain and Ibiza. That means you can use your mobile as if you were in the UK.

However they already have limits on using their sims abroad and for example if you have all you can eat data, you are limited to a maximum of 12gb data per month and you can only use it for 2 consecutive months at a time whilst abroad.
We expect other mobile operators to follow suit with a similar setup, perfect for holidays and business travelling but ensuring that workers or even residents cannot take advantage of better deals from other European countries on a long term basis.
So although its not perfect it should mean no more large bills when you arrive home from your holiday after sending all those beach and club selfies to annoy your friends on social media.
