Tapas Ibiza San Antonio our favourite place to eat

One of our “must eat at” restaurants in Ibiza is Tapas Ibiza, which we first discovered after a recommendation on Twitter from Wayne Liniker; and promptly fell in love, with its location, its food, the staff, the ambiance and of course their Mojitos.

Celebrating the restaurant’s 3rd birthday this week we sat down with Tony and Becky – Owners/Managers at Tapas Ibiza for a quick chat over a Mojito or two about the restaurant, San Antonio and the 2015 season.

With a month to go until the people of Ibiza go to the Polls and with the emergence of several Parties/Groups who want to end the one-trick-pony of San Antonio as a party hotspot and clubbers paradise, what is the future for this resort with such a bad reputation?

San Antonio has always been attacked and invaded historically by Pirates and the Turks, to the mid-90s with “lads on tour” through to the modern day clubber and 18 year olds who are looking for their right of passage.

For those visiting Ibiza for the sun, sea and sand here are our favourite beaches all within easy reach of San Antonio, but require either a little extra walking or a ferry trip to get to.

Our top tip when visiting these beaches is to pick up some snorkelling gear beforehand and make the most of the Mediterranean Sea by exploring underwater.  There are many wonder to behold, from the Posidonia Oceanicato to the abundance of fish and other marine life.

Culture is not the first word that comes to mind when you think of San Antonio, famed for its parties and nightlife.  But dig a little deeper and there are some cultural gems to be found both modern and much older.

This is an easy walk, which is best done early evening to enjoy it to its full potential; it takes around 2 hrs (3km).

The beaches are clean with most having sun beds and parasols to rent, water sports and come complete with a lifeguard and medical point manned throughout the day (during the summer season)

As you know we are huge Above and Beyond fans and if not for them we would never have found Ibiza after booking our first trip to the island purely to see them again after we saw them live in Brixton, London.

Today Cream Ibiza announced their lines ups and Above and Beyond will be playing at Amnesia no less than 7 times over the summer.

Why is there seaweed on the beaches around Ibiza?

Posidonia Oceanica

From time to time you will see masses of seaweed washed up on the beaches of Ibiza. It is in actual fact not seaweed but a plant which has adapted to living under the ocean called Posidonia Oceanica.

More commonly know as “Neptune Grass” it grows in meadows under the sea throughout the Mediterranean.
