Space, Playa den Bossa, Ibiza
In a recent television interview businessman, Abel Matutes Juan confirmed that the name Space Ibiza will remain as Space at least in its name.
“It will surely open this year as Space. It is an accredited brand, which does not prevent us from adding a new name that links us with all the establishments we have, “said the businessman in an interview broadcast by local television.
Update: However it turned out this was a rather good PR stunt to keep us all talking and in early February they announced the new name for Space, see here for all the details.
He also explained that his business group built the original venue located on the second line of Platja d’en Bossa and that after several years they chose to concentrate on their hotels and decided to rent it to Pepe Roselló.
“He had had experiences in the sector in Sant Antoni and I thought it was a good point to enhance the complementary activities in Platja d’en Bossa. We renewed the rent but that lease ends on December 31 and we have recovered it, “said Matutes.
He added that they will not make any changes for the upcoming season but will continue to “empower it as a popular and quality venue”.
So this seems to answer everyone’s question as to what the future of Space is. In the short term at least it seems very little will change from a physical side even from a name point bearing in mind it was called Space before Pepe Roselló took over the lease in 1989.
The music policy, however, we shall have to wait and see whether it’s a complete change (Elrow has already confirmed it is moving to Amnesia) or just a tweak on what Space has been famous for over the last 27 years.
